Famitsu Finds Out How B’z Made It Onto Rocksmith 2014
Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has interviewed Rocksmith 2014 Edition’s creative director, Paul Cross, to find out more about the reasons why B’z made it onto Rocksmith 2014. Their first question was why B’z was chosen to be included in the game. Paul Cross replied “That’s of course because they’re one of the greatest bands on the planet!”, which leads Famitsu to ask the next question: Have you known about B’z before? Paul had to admit that he had not known about B’z before. He says that one of Rocksmith’s Japanese producers introduced him to the band.
With Rocksmith’s 2014 edition, Ubisoft aims to have everyone around the world enjoy the game. Therefore, they decided to include songs from all over the world. Moving on, Famitsu wanted to know why “ultra soul” was specifically chosen for the game. Paul explained that he was discussing with Ubisoft’s team in Japan which B’z song they would choose for the game. “Of course a popular song is fine, too”, Paul says, “but we wanted to find a song that is on par with the songs we have released on the previous Rocksmith.”
Finally, the magazine wanted to know if there’s a possibility that Japan will get exclusive downloadable content with the latest B’z songs, which Paul denied by stating that if there’s going to be downloadable content, it’s going to be available world wide. Furthermore, Paul says it’s possible that more Japanese artists might be included in the game in the future.

“Q&A” New Detective Conan Opening Theme Starting May 4
And the tie-in madness continues! B’z has just announced that their new song “Q&A”—which is set to be released as part of the B’z The Best XXV 1999-2012 compilation—will be the new opening theme to the anime series “Detective Conan” starting May 4th. The band has supplied opening and ending themes as well as movie themes for Detective Conan in the past. The last opening theme B’z has supplied was “Don’t Wanna Lie” in 2011, which was also featured as the theme song for the Detective Conan movie that was released that year.
“Kakushin” Featured in NTV Drama Kumo no Kaidan
There have been rumors about a possible tie-in for one of the new songs on the B’z The Best XXV releases, but now it is official: Kakushin has been selected to be the theme song for the upcoming Nippon Television drama “Kumo no Kaidan”. The series is set to air on April 17th, which will also be the first chance to hear a portion of Kakushin. Tak and Koshi have shared their thoughts on the song as well.
Tak Matsumoto
I had a look at the script before starting work on the song and had a lot of fun working on it from the melody to the arrangement. I really can’t wait for it to be aired. I will be glad if you enjoy this song along with the drama.
Koshi Inaba
I have read Jun’ichi Watanabe’s original novels and have also taken into account the drama’s theme and script when I wrote the lyrics and melody for the song. We really like the song we have produced. Please enjoy it along with the drama.
“Love Bomb” To Be New Pepsi NEX Song
The interview with B’z in the latest issue of the B’z official fanclub magazine Be With! reveals that “Love Bomb” will be the next Pepsi Nex title song. While it is not known that this is in fact an English version of Ai no Bakudan(=Love Bomb), it should be safe to assume that it is.
Koshi also mentions that “Love Bomb” came up while working on songs. It looks like B’z is indeed working on an English album.
There’s no word on a release date for “Love Bomb” so far… stay tuned!
“ultra soul 2011” Theme Song for FINA World Championships
After it got a little quieter in the B’z news segment, it was only a matter of time until B’z news would come up again. As the release of B’z new single, “Don’t Wanna Lie”, draws closer, new information is beginning to be revealed! In fact, early birds can already get their copy of the single today in Japan.
So, this morning, it was revealed that B’z is providing the official theme song for the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai. It’ll take place from July 16 to July 31 and will be broadcasted on TV Asahi. According to the newspaper, “ultra soul 2011” is a rearranged version of the original “ultra soul” released in 2001.
You can listen to it here, it’s a bit from the program “Morning Bird” on TV Asahi where they talk about Kitajima Kosuke, a Japanese swimmer. Can anybody make out a difference between ultra soul 2011 and the original ultra soul? It somehow sounds the same to me.
It is also worth noting that the original ultra soul was the theme song for the first ever FINA World Championships held in Asia in 2001. This year marks the 10th anniversary and for that occasion they chose ultra soul again. Very original…
Does this mean “ultra soul 2011” will be a 3rd track on another single? Or on the album? Or just for publicity? We’ll keep you updated!
New Song “Homebound” As News 23X Ending Theme
B’z Official Website states that starting today, B’z new song “Homebound” will be the ending theme to the news show “News 23X” which airs from 22:54 to 23:45 from Monday to Thursday and 23:30 to 24:15 on Fridays on the channel TBS.
We recall that Koshi Inaba’s “Kono Te wo Totte Hashiridashite” was the ending theme to “News 23X” before, and thus, we can assume that “Homebound” is a ballad. I’m going to watch “NEWS 23X” today and will report back later.
The release date for “Homebound” and further details will be announced at a later date.
Update: Video here. Sorry for the bad video quality, I was watching it with KeyHole TV .
